Course Description
The theory and practice of teaching in post-secondary institutions, with specific application to teaching the introductory public speaking course or the hybrid overview course with major public speaking components. Designed to create familiarity with learner variables, effective course design for achieving learning outcomes, creating a positive learning environment, and developing assessment materials of student learning. Students will also gain knowledge of how to craft a teaching philosophy and teaching portfolio.

Course Objectives
1. To guide instructors in planning course syllabi, lectures, activities, assignments, and exams that maintain the pedagogical integrity of the introduction to public speaking or hybrid overview course 2. To guide instructors in developing critical awareness of how to manage the challenges of teaching in an undergraduate environment 3. To enable instructors to theorize sound instructional and class management practices for introduction to public speaking or hybrid courses 4. To enable instructors to assess students in ways that promote transparency, fairness, and/or rigor in learning and teaching
