Methods in Teaching English Education II


Course Description

Explores the underlying principles and practices of different approaches to the teaching of English in the areas of literature, reading, writing, and speaking. Provides support in constructing units, lessons, and assessments that meet the differentiated needs of students given their diverse identities, literacies, and interests.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will conduct an analysis of feedback given across writing assignments across the semester.

  • Students will be able to identify, recognize, and reflect upon the characteristics of effective teaching (of English/Language Arts).
  • Students will be able to recognize characteristics of school culture and classroom climate that affect the teaching and learning process.
  • Students will be able to recognize examples of decision-making in the selection of content, instructional strategies, and management techniques.
  • Students will be able to develop, implement, and evaluate the relative merits of a variety of techniques for classroom management and student motivation.
  • Students will be able to engage in a scaffolded series of high-leverage practice tasks, evaluating the impact on both pupil learning and your understanding of what it means to teach English/Language Arts.
