Explores the origins and foundations of Critical Race Theory in the field of education and more specifically social studies education and curriculum. Applies an understanding of Critical Race Theory to address issues of institutional racism in school settings.

Course Objectives
Demonstrate an understanding of Critical Race Theory as an analytical and theoretical mechanism for framing and interrogating matters of institutional racism in social studies education. Examine the origins of Critical Race Theory, both in the field of education more broadly and Social Studies Education. Apply an understanding of Critical Race Theory to address issues of institutional racism in school settings (K-20). Develop an understanding of Critical Race Theory in relation to conceptions of citizenship and civics education.
