Course Description
An introduction to emergency operations and disaster management - from mitigating and planning for disasters to responding to and recovering from them. Students will learn how their personal and community emergency preparedness can be improved, and about the careers and opportunities available in disaster management.

Course Objectives
- Recognize a variety of hazards and historic disaster events. - Explain methods of ensuring community health and safety preparedness. - Identify the roles and relationships among federal, tribal, state, and local governments and non-governmental organizations in the United States. - Define the use of the all-hazards framework for disaster planning and mitigation, and in the use of triage systems in a disaster or public health emergency. - Apply principles of crisis and risk communication.
