One Health Capstone


Course Description

Faculty-supervised service-learning capstone project for students pursuing the undergraduate certificate in One Health. Provides students the opportunity to engage in inquiry into an area highlighting a One Health approach to solving a disease problem. Students will be expected to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in their seminars and coursework in a real-life setting. Students will work closely with their faculty mentor(s) to identify a project, create a proposal, gather information/data, analyze results, create a project summary, and present their findings to others.

  • By the end of the course, students will be able to critically research and evaluate a problem and propose a multidisciplinary solution.

Topical Outline

  • The capstone project will be developed collaboratively by the student(s) and faculty mentor(s). Specific topics will vary depending on the individual capstone project.
  • Weeks 1-3: Develop project and pre-proposal with the faculty mentor(s) and host site.
  • Weeks 4-12: Launch, conduct, and conclude the project.
  • Weeks 13-15: Create a written summary of the project and present project findings in a seminar format to student peers and faculty.
