Investigates contemporary scholarship in social studies education and engages in a critical analysis of this research. Leads students to examine areas of needed research related to teaching and learning in social studies education.

Student learning Outcomes
- Students will acquire a familiarity with the major issues and topics featured in contemporary social education research and the methods utilized to investigate them.
- Students will be able to critically interpret instances of social studies research on several different measures, including quality of study design, the significance of findings, and value to the education community (e.g., other researchers, curriculum developers, and social studies teachers).
- Students will be able to synthesize both the potential and limitations of research in social education for improving teaching and learning in social studies.
- Students will be able to practice thoughtful dialogue among other social studies professionals to develop community, facilitate learning, and encourage responsible engagement with others in the class.
