Course Objectives
The aim of the seminar is to help students acquire an in-depth historical and cultural appreciation of a literary topic. The seminar will be organized so as to allow discussion of a particular cultural, literary and/or historical issue.
Topical Outline
Issues discussed will include questions about the production and reception of literature and culture, ideology and hegemony, the patriarchal and colonial bases of Western culture, and the status of the subject within culture. The course will include discussions on practical applications of theory to representative literary works and cultural phenomena.
