A survey of various styles in the pop idiom beginning with early rock-and-roll and rhythm and blues styles to more contemporary genres. Includes assigned written or improvised playing assignments and performance exams in a solo or group context.

Course Objectives
• To help students perform a variety of popular piano techniques and to broaden their understanding of popular song construction and the anatomy of groove playing
Topical Outline
• Practicing/memorizing chord progressions and voicings • Playing written examples of various pop piano styles • Writing harmonizations of tunes and playing them at the keyboard
