Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will read, listen, speak, and write in German at the advanced level (ACTFL Intermediate High/Advanced Low, CFR B2/C1).
  • Students will express informed knowledge and opinions about important events, people, issues, and artistic works in modern German/Austrian society and culture.
  • Students will independently read/view/listen, analyze, evaluate, summarize, and present on materials from authentic German-language media.

  • I. German grammar, usage, and vocabulary review and development for spoken and written communication
  • II. Important issues in modern/contemporary German/Austrian society and culture
  • III. A modern German/Austrian novel
  • IV. German/Austrian works in other artistic media, most notably film/video and music
