Course Description
Individual practical experience in exercise leadership, fitness testing, and clinical exercise testing conducted at the University of Georgia fitness center and recreational activity facilities.

Non-Traditional Format
Students will meet once per week for classroom lecture. Additional contact hours with community members will be established by the supervisor based on credit hours. Course includes a service-learning project during the semester that either employs skills or knowledge learned in the course or teaches new skills or knowledge related to course objectives. Students will be involved in the planning and implementation of the project(s) and may spend time outside of the classroom. Students will be engaged in the service-learning component for approximately 75-100% of the overall instruction time.

Course Objectives
The student will be able to: 1. Identify and describe the cognitive principles involved in program operation. 2. Demonstrate the techniques and procedures utilized in program operation. 3. Analyze the operation of the program in relation to theoretical models. 4. Integrate concepts related to program operation into a course of action. 5. Evaluate the program in terms of its stated and intended purpose. 6. Apply concepts of exercise assessment and prescription to issues of individual interest in a community-based service-learning context.
Topical Outline
Content will vary for each practicum experience but will cover the following: I. Cognitive principles of program organization. II. Techniques and procedures utilized in program organization and operation. III. Analysis of the roles and functions within the unit. IV. Practical experience as a means to apply, integrate, and analyze knowledge to program operation.
