Student Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to utilize analytical tools and methods from the social sciences and cultural studies to study top-down and bottom-up political messaging in popular culture.
  • By the end of this course, students will have a clear understanding of how popular culture - including, for example, Arab Cinema, K-Pop, and popular music in Russia and Ukraine - both reflects and impacts political phenomena in national contexts.
  • By the end of this course, students will have a practical overview of global political history from the start of the Cold War until today.
