Course Objectives
Students will: - Use creative methodologies and strategic messaging tactics to craft visual communication content. - Develop an understanding of the visual structure and the formal principles of design. - Understand how to utilize imagery and textual content in storytelling. - Create strategic messages for specific audiences. - Apply and use relevant software to create visual content for various media. - Analyze effective campaign case studies. - Effectively apply the design process: identify and analyze problems, perform research, develop strategy and generate concepts, design and execute prototypes, then evaluate and refine outcomes.
Topical Outline
In an active workshop environment, students will experience the creative and strategic design process from research to conception to final execution. Students will tackle applied communications problems geared to develop strategic thinking competencies and develop or hone creative and visual skills. • Introduction to visual basics for effective design including composition, typography, color, and information hierarchy. • Case Studies: a critical review of effective campaigns related to branding and communications strategy across media from social and digital platforms to print. • Idea generation and creative thinking methodologies. • Relevant skills in Adobe CC software for creating visual solutions in print and digital media. • Utilizing photographic imagery and videography to construct narratives.
