Course Description
Class piano elective for undergraduate music majors who have successfully completed Piano Class III. Students will develop their keyboard technique and reading through etudes and piano repertoire of various genres (classical, contemporary, sacred).

Course Objectives
Students will: • Develop a basic technical regimen to include scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, technical studies, and etudes • Explore solo piano repertoire of classical and contemporary styles • Gain experience in solo piano performance practice and preparation
Topical Outline
• Materials pertinent to intermediate-level keyboard technique, including scales, chord progressions, arpeggios, technical exercises, and etudes (Beyer, Czerny, Schmitt, Moszkowski, and others) • Development of a technical regimen for intermediate-level pianists • Solo piano literature from the western classical canon: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionistic, 20th-21st centuries • Solo piano literature of contemporary styles (minimalism, jazz, blues, sacred music, music by current/pedagogical composers) • Solo piano literature by underrepresented composers of various styles and periods • Performance of chosen literature in a public setting
