Course Description
Introduction to aerial dance technique and creative practice utilizing vertical and bar apparatuses (i.e. aerial fabric, trapeze). Students will develop an awareness of effective technique and alignment through beginning skill vocabulary including mounts, climbs, wraps, locks, and inversions. Contextual information on rigging, anatomy, history, and aesthetics will augment practice-based learning.

Course Objectives
At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate beginning aerial skill vocabulary with effective technique and alignment. 2. Identify beginning aerial skill families, common bases of support, and root positions on vertical and bar apparatuses. 3. Apply the elements of dance to create personally expressive aerial sequences at a beginning level. 4. Describe basic rigging and risk management practices for aerial training.
