Course Description

An intensive physical laboratory course emphasizing specificity in skills, methods, and tools used for refinement in ballet training. A companion course to Ballet II. The laboratory experience focuses on mastering difficult skills in ballet training to acquire a kinesiological strong ballet technique and performance.

Course Objectives

This course provides students the opportunity to undertake a specialized study of ballet training in a companion course for Ballet II. Enrollment requires the permission of the instructor/project supervisor. • To further strengthen ballet technique skills • To learn different methodologies in skill training • To focus on perfecting specific ballet movement skills • To extend, reinforce, and strengthen training in Ballet II • To perform ballet technique with confidence and artistry


Topical Outline

The class will meet one day per week and will consist of: a) ballet barre exercises focusing on one specific skill every week b) center exercises that emphasize the use of designated skill c) theoretical, pedagogical, and kinesiological breakdown of skill execution d) adding new ballet vocabulary (terminology) along with skills
