This Maymester course, in partnership with The University of Warmia and Mazury in Poland, uses a hands-on experience, discussions, case studies, and team-based work to provide training in concepts of One Health. The course uses a problem-based inquiry approach that combines educational travel, seminar, lectures, teamwork, and applied lab and field activities.

This study away course will consist of lecture, lab, excursions, and cultural activities. The total hours of lecture per week is 10 (30 total for the course) and lab/field/excursion is 13.3 (40 total for the course).

Student learning Outcomes
Students will demonstrate foundational knowledge of One Health principles and the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health.
Students will analyze environmental and health challenges including zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, urbanization, and wildlife conservation.
Students will practice skills in laboratory techniques including microbiological, molecular, necropsy, and hematology methods.
Students will examine the role of livestock and wildlife management in human health through field visits, data collection, and engagement with conservation and agricultural systems.
Students will develop self-directed research questions.
Students will collect and analyze field data across multiple sites and time points.
Students will communicate findings effectively in a written report and oral presentation connecting results to One Health implications at local and global scales.
Students will work collaboratively, contributing equitably to team projects.
Students will engage with Polish peers in structured discussions of One Health challenges.
