Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Critically apply knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology, phonetics, and language development in order to gain a scientific and clinical understanding of speech disorders. 2. Learn basic concepts and terminology associated with speech and speech disorders. 3. Describe the causes and characteristics of various speech disorders, e.g., articulation/phonological disorders, voice and resonance disorders, neurogenic disorders, and fluency disorders. 4. Analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information at a pre- professional level about common methods used in diagnosing, preventing, and treating these disorders. This is not a clinical course; students will not be prepared to provide clinical services after this course.
