Course Description
Course is designed to develop and enrich literacy coaches’ assessment literacy. Course will show participants how to accurately and appropriately understand the accountability metrics used to gauge the status and progress of student learning at the building and district levels.

Course Objectives
1) Acquire the necessary resources available to them, as coaches and administrators with assessment concerns, to locate information; 2) Articulate, explain, and evaluate factors and contextual influences (e.g., culture, language, bias) of assessments within a comprehensive literacy and language system (3.1. GaPSC) *; 3) Assist and collaborate with school leaders and teachers in the administration and interpretation of reliable and valid assessment data to inform classroom and school-wide decisions, instruction, and interventions (3.2. GaPSC) *; 4) Facilitate professional learning activities that incorporate focused analyses of assessment data and goal setting across grade levels, content areas, and school improvement initiative (3.3. GaPSC) *; 5) Share and explain reports, in both written and oral form, to other administrators, parents/guardians, teachers/specialists, and other stakeholders and advocate for effective literacy and language practice (3.4. GaPSC) *; 6) Develop their working familiarity with the vocabulary and concepts of assessment and evaluation; and 7) Develop their own time management skills as school administrative professionals. *Nota Bene: Star indicates the Georgia Professional Standards Commissions Learning Outcomes that need to be assessed.
