Course Objectives
This course emphasizes work with groups, organizations, and communities. The generalist model continues to be the overall framework for practice.
Topical Outline
1) Continue the preparation of students for generalist social work practice with an emphasis on groups, communities; and organizations; 2) Provide students with the knowledge to understand small group development and the dynamics of group interaction; 3) Provide students with the knowledge to understand and effectively relate to organizational environments; 4) Provide students a framework for understanding communities as social networks; 5) Provide students with a framework for assessing need for the use of both group and community level interventions; 6) Provide students with the knowledge of the legislative process and how legislative initiatives can be used as public level interventions; 7) Emphasize culture, race, ethnicity, gender; sexual orientation, and handicapping conditions as vital to the effective delivery of social services; and 8) Develop an understanding of the effects of discrimination and oppression and identifying populations at risk.
