Advanced Performance Systems Analysis in Learning, Design, and Technology


Course Description

Provides an in-depth overview of human performance technology and instructional design practices through a systems thinking lens. Emphasis is placed on how to employ a systems thinking view to dissect and analyze performance projects in learning, design, and technology.

  • Systems theories (general systems, complexity, chaos)
  • Components of a system in LDT (inputs, outputs, feedback loops, environment, systems and subsystems, people, and processes)
  • Systems thinking archetypes as they relate to LDT
  • Human performance technology analyses in LDT (needs analysis, organizational analysis, performance analysis, environmental analysis)
  • Interventions (instructional and non-instructional interventions, intervention identification, strategies for intervention maintenance)
  • Evaluation (formative, summative, and confirmative)
  • Ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability
