Course Description
Exploration of eight major world religions and the salience of religion and spirituality in regard to mental health practice. Discussion on the integration of religion and/or spirituality into counseling spaces and the introduction of culturally appropriate intervention skills specifically related to religion and spirituality.

Articulate the legal, ethical, and professional issues confronting mental health practitioners.
Exhibit the ability to attend to religion and spirituality in the counseling space.
Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and skills regarding advocacy processes needed to address institutional, societal, and attitudinal barriers that impede access, equity, and success for clients who identify with less privileged religious traditions and other marginalized clients.
Document self-awareness of how behaviors, values, and attitudes regarding religion and spirituality affect performance in counseling.
