Course Objectives

Standard image processing routines and systems. The course is intended to address the problems of designing and building an image processing library of tools. Efficient algorithms and optimization techniques form the core of this course. A number of image processing applications will also be presented.

Topical Outline

Introduction to image processing operations, including: low- and high-pass filters, component labeling, histogram techniques, edge detection, region processing, noise reduction, image enhancement techniques, image segmentation, image data structures and pyramids, software tools for imaging, compression, image analysis and applications in vision, face recognition, remote sensing, digital mamography, and other applications, ... Introduction to parallel and distributed processing with imaging applications in mind.
