Performance Studies


Course Description

Performance studies human activity as culturally meaningful, from performance art to rituals of the everyday. A combination of critical perspectives can be used to study performance. This course introduces students to diverse approaches to performance studies through a variety of live, digital, historic events, written reflection, and immersive projects.

Student learning Outcomes

  • Students will understand how to develop a working vocabulary pertinent to and descriptive of the elements and methodology of Performance Studies as a field distinct from theatre.
  • Students will understand how to investigate representative historic, contemporary, and daily performances from the perspective of performance studies.
  • Students will understand critical and creative methods used in performance creation and performance studies research.
  • Students will understand how to apply performance studies methods in class and individual research projects.
