Course Objectives
The students will be expected to learn the fundamentals of preparing and presenting a technical or scientific seminar. Because the students will receive instruction by the professor on how to prepare an effective seminar, witness seminars presented by gifted presenters, and listen to critiques by their classmates and the professor of the course, they will learn the fundamentals of giving an effective seminar in a way that will be fun and memorable.
Topical Outline
1. Students will be taught methods for giving effective technical and scientific seminars. 2. Guest speakers deemed by the professor to be exceptionally gifted in the area of seminar preparation and presentation will be asked to guest lecture in the class. 3. Each student will be expected to prepare and present a technical or scientific seminar. 4. After each student has presented the seminar, the students will critique the presentation based on the information they have been taught concerning giving effective presentations. The qualities that the students in the class like or dislike about the seminar will be discussed. 5. The professor will provide input on the positive and negative qualities of the seminar.
