Fashion Merchandising Capstone


Course Description

Represents a final experience for Fashion Merchandising majors. Students work in teams that reflect the roles and functions in the industry, showing a balanced input from design and merchandising. Students develop their professional identity and apply the knowledge and skills they have gained throughout the major for industry readiness.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will understand how to analyze the current market, competitive landscape, and marketing and promotional strategies for an apparel brand or fashion retail business.
  • Students will understand how to develop a market-responsive apparel product line for an apparel brand or fashion retail business.
  • Students will understand how to create merchandising and assortment recommendations for an apparel brand or fashion retail business.
  • Students will understand how to examine various factors from the FACS Body of Knowledge and assess the impact on consumers fashion choices and merchandising strategies.
  • Students will understand how to demonstrate cross-functional team collaboration and effective communication and presentation skills for fashion industry professional settings.
  • Students will understand how to compose a professional persona representing the culminating experience of the fashion merchandising major in preparation for post-graduation industry placement.
