Course will focus on developing lesson planning skills and strategies, authentic assessments, Backwards Design, Universal Design for Learning, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Students will put theory into practice through attending a practicum.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students: Graduate students will have heightened requirements for discussion and class leadership. The final project for graduate students will include a more significant component of original research and larger expectations for the review of the literature.

Student learning Outcomes
Students will be able to plan, implement, and create lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and multimodal in music instruction for students of varying abilities and cultures through teaching preschool music lessons within the community.
Students will apply knowledge gained from community service experience by contribution to class discussions and lesson planning.
Students will develop reflective practices through observation, writing, and goal setting.
Students will be able to evaluate student feedback in order to inform lesson planning and authentic assessment through preschool practicum placement within the community.
Students will be able to critically discuss, create, implement, and reflect on a variety of assessment tools and age-appropriate lessons based on music standards.
Students will become familiar with leading pedagogical practices used in music classrooms
Students will be able to identify specific techniques that may be used with exceptional learners to help ensure success in the music classroom.
Students will demonstrate specific techniques that show the integration of music from a variety of cultures within instruction.
Students will apply new knowledge about lesson planning and teaching to their service experience as well as apply their service experience to their new knowledge.
