An overview of current practices in broiler production, broiler
breeder production, commercial layers, incubation, hatchery
management, poultry health, and related areas. Attention will be
given to the application of science to modern poultry production
systems.

Discuss current practices relative to modern, state-of-the-art poultry production (meat and eggs) and determine most appropriate for a given situation.
Be able to apply scientific principles learned in lower level-biology, chemistry, and poultry courses to poultry production systems.
Understand current and future challenges facing poultry production.
Through the use of case studies, students will apply critical thinking and scientific reasoning to poultry production issues through written reports and discussion.
Students will be able to analyze production data and situations and develop a solution to optimize production parameters and welfare.
Students will be required to write a research paper on a current issue facing the poultry industry and will participate in a comprehensive oral exam to determine their ability to apply learned concepts associated with poultry science.
