Engineering and global cultures shape one another. This course explores cultural, historical, and social influences on engineering, highlights underrepresented voices, and examines how identity, ethics, and community contexts guide engineering decisions while engineering practices, in turn, reshape societies.

- Students will examine global issues and diverse cultural perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of the societal and ethical dimensions of engineering across cultures.
- Students will develop cultural self-awareness and sensitivity through examining the impact of global engineering.
- Students will explore global artistic, literary, and philosophical works that reflect the relationship between engineering, culture, and human experience. They will evaluate how these forms of expression influence and are influenced by technological advancement and societal needs.
- Students will explore and analyze how contemporary cultures beyond the United States are shaped by and respond to engineering practices and technological advancements. Through international case studies and cross-cultural examinations of infrastructure, innovation, and societal development, the course will emphasize the complex relationship between technological change and cultural, ethical, and historical contexts.
- Through interdisciplinary study and discussion, students will synthesize perspectives from multiple cultures and disciplines to understand the global implications of engineering decisions. They will demonstrate this understanding through written analysis, presentations, and group projects that emphasize cultural context and ethical responsibility.
