Course Objectives

Students will explore British or American literature with special attention paid to the situation of texts in their language, their culture, and the critical debates that surround them. Specific course objectives will vary widely each time this course is taught, but in general students can expect to become thoroughly familiar with a small body of literature and its contexts. In addition, students will become skilled at raising and discussing (in both written and oral forms) theoretical questions prompted by this literature.

This course is taught by instructors with a wide variety of specialties within the field of British and American literature, thus texts and topics will vary from semester to semester.
