Course Description

Accompanying the corresponding methods and seminar courses, this course examines the intersections between coursework and practice as students engage in secondary English classrooms in a variety of contexts.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will engage in an inquiry-based action research project.

Student learning Outcomes

  • Students will observe and reflect on classroom learning and teaching.
  • Students will identify, recognize, and reflect on the characteristics of effective teaching (of English/Language Arts).
  • Students will compare and contrast pedagogical, structural, and contextual differences across multiple school contexts.
  • Students will co-plan activities and learning experiences with a mentor teacher. Evaluate the impact of subsequent instruction on pupil learning.
  • Students will analyze and discuss classroom/school experience in dialogue with theoretical and research-based texts from the field.
