Course Objectives

To create, review, and expand a graduate veterinary student's knowledge of the major diseases, toxicosis, and metabolic disease conditions affecting poultry. 1. Recognize the clinical signs of the common diseases of domestic poultry. 2. State etiology for each of the common diseases of poultry. 3. Outline the basics of vaccination programs used to prevent selected diseases of poultry. 4. Identify chemotheraputic agents used to treat selected diseases of poultry. 5. Identify the serological, virological, and bacteriological techniques used to diagnose selected diseases of poultry. 6. Identify histologic lesions of selected diseases of poultry.


Topical Outline

This course is an introduction to poultry diseases. An autotutorial course using kodachrome slides and video tapes to illustrate the common diseases of domestic poultry. Clinical signs of disease, disease prevention and treatment are stressed. Designed for the incoming Master of Avian Medicine student and provides a review of the diseases of poultry.
