Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to introduce graduate students in English and related fields to the historical development of rhetoric and its influence on textuality and the teaching of writing.
Topical Outline
This course will emphasize different historical periods of rhetoric from antiquity to the present, emphasizing the development of writing and textuality. Topics might include 1. Classical rhetoric and its influence on the development of Western rhetoric and textuality. 2. Rhetoric and textuality in the English and/or American traditions. 3. The development of modern rhetoric and composition theory and practice.
