Course Objectives
To provide the graduate veterinary student basic knowledge regarding the judicious use of antimicrobial and anticoccidal agents as well as the signs and symptoms of those agents, as well as, the Mycotoxins, vitamins, minerals, and other naturally occurring toxicants.

1. Review chemical structures and analytical methods. 2. Antibiotics I - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis, and residues. 3. Antibiotics II - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis, and residues. 4. Feed additives and growth promotants - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis, and residues. 5. Anticoccidials - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis, and withdrawals. 6. Environmental toxins - mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages to produce lesions, interfering interactions, toxicosis. 7. Mycotoxins I - natural occurrence, limits, mode of action, immune effects, effects on poultry, safe levels, detection and quantification, and bioassay. 8. Mycotoxins II - Specific effects of selected mycotoxins. 9. Vitamins - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis. 10. Pesticides and Anthelmintics - approvals, mechanism of action, mechanism of absorption, avian dosages, interfering interactions, toxicosis.
