Course Objectives

This course continues the development of the foundation in spoken and written Yoruba begun in YORB 1010. There will be more focus on the grammar and culture, as well as more reading and conversational activities than in YORB 1010. At the end of the course, students will be able to speak, write, and comprehend Yoruba at a more intense level than in YORB 1010. The students will be able to initiate and maintain conversations beyond simple questions and answers as well as write clear thoughts in Yoruba.


Topical Outline

The focus of the class is to complete the first year materials and focus. Class lessons and discussions will include (but not limited to) the following topics: - Adjectives and adjectival verbs - Descriptions - Prepositions - Commands and imperatives - More on tenses and verbal elements - More on question markers - More on pronouns - Simple/r questions - Numbers (1-1000) - Food, meals and cooking - Having a guest at home versus eating out - Travel - Nigbati cluster - Lehinti cluster - Prefixes, infixes and suffixes - Contraction and deletion
