Course Description
This course will equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles regarding the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. Students will explore essential concepts related to vaccines and various treatment modalities, including antibiotics, antifungals, antiparasitic, and antivirals. Students will acquire the necessary knowledge to approach infectious diseases with informed and effective strategies.

Student learning Outcomes
- Students will identify major classes of antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics and their mechanisms of action.
- Students will interpret antimicrobial susceptibility data (e.g., MIC, disk diffusion assays).
- Students will explain the molecular and evolutionary basis of antimicrobial resistance.
- Students will explain the principles behind vaccination, including types of vaccines and immune responses elicited.
- Students will evaluate infection control measures (e.g., isolation, hand hygiene, sterilization, PPE use).
- Students will analyze real-world public health interventions (e.g., outbreak containment, contact tracing, prophylaxis).
- Students will assess the impact of social determinants, globalization, and climate change on infectious disease dynamics.
- Students will critically evaluate emerging infectious threats and pandemic preparedness strategies.
- Students will propose evidence-based interventions for managing an outbreak or controlling disease spread.
- Students will discuss ethical issues in infectious disease management (e.g., vaccine equity, antimicrobial stewardship).
