Independent study and research in Yoruban language and literature under the direction of individual faculty. Focus is on reading and analysis of Yoruban literary texts (including works in translation from Yoruba-speaking communities in Africa and the Diaspora).

Course Objectives
The course is designed as an independent study on special topics in Yoruba Language, Literature and Culture. Readings from textual materials. The academic (and other) interests of the students will affect the type of readings that are done. Students will also be introduced to readings in specialized materials in Yoruba. The course, however, will be offered as YORB(AFAM) 3020 if the enrollment is 5+ in a given semester.
Topical Outline
The topical focus of the course will be developed along the academic (and other) interests of the students but attention will be paid to: - The Yoruba World view incorporating knowledge of the language, culture, and society - Yoruba oral traditions - Yoruba (literary) writings: traditional and modern - Application of readings to Yoruba and Nigerian societies
