Systems of Psychology


Course Description

Major theoretical systems in psychology, with special emphasis on developments of the last half-century, especially behaviorism and cognitivism.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students, in addition to the three required exams, must write a term paper on one of the four major materialist perspectives in Psychology.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students should have learned: 1. About philosophical and natural science antecedents of the field of psychology 2. About basic assumptions and premises underlying major conceptual and theoretical systems in psychology 3. About similarities and differences in 8-10 major psychological systems and the influence of each system on the field of contemporary psychology 4. About strengths and weaknesses of each major system of psychology
