A course for the student who wishes to read comprehensively in a particular content area under the direction of a faculty member.

Non-Traditional Format

Directed study. The credit hours received are based on the amount of hours committed to spend in the lab. For 1 hour credit, student will work 3 hours weekly. For 2 hours, they work 6 hours weekly. For 3 hours, they work 9 hours weekly.


Prerequisite

PSYC 3990 and permission of department

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students should have learned: 1. About pertinent ideas, theories, and/or empirical findings in their self-chosen topic area 2. About how one goes about analyzing and critiquing research literature 3. About drawing conclusions based on an existing body of knowledge 4. About identifying unresolved issues or gaps in a research literature that might be addressed in future research This course allows the student to pursue an in-depth exploration of literature pertinent to a self-chosen topic as directed by a sponsoring faculty mentor.


Topical Outline

The format for this course is nontraditional and will depend on the topic or nature of the problem that student chooses to pursue. Each of the above learning objectives will be addressed under the guidance of a sponsoring faculty member who has expertise in the literature students are reading or otherwise feels competent to supervise the project.
