Course Description
Covers economically important avian viruses, including basic biology and processes of viruses, diseases they cause in poultry, methods of diagnosis and prevention/control of viral diseases, virus classification, multiplication and pathogenesis, virus-host cell interactions and host responses to viral infections, and rationale behind viral diagnostics and viral vaccines.

Course Objectives
1. To familiarize the student with the current techniques used to isolate and identify avian viruses. 2. To perform all steps invloved inpreparing and maintaining cell cultures of avain origin. 3. To recognize the effect exerted by important avian viruses on chicken embryo and cell cultures. 4. To perform the different serologic tests used to quantitate antibodies against several avian viruses. 5. To manipulate laboratory equipment. 6. To prepare and standaardize antigens used in different serologic tests. 7. To understand the basic principles of biotechnology in avian medicine.
