Course Objectives

Students will pursue independent study and research under the direction of individual faculty members. The objective is to provide students the opportunity to develop expertise in areas of Japanese language and literature that are not covered in regularly taught courses.


Topical Outline

Topics will vary with the instructor. Typically, the student and supervising faculty member will develop a list of readings focused on a single area of interest, such as Heian fiction, lyric poetry, the fiction of an individual writer, etc.
