Current theory and research in motivation and motivational processes. The goal is to help students develop a foundational understanding of motivational constructs in the educational setting.

Course Objectives
1. Learners will understand the history and research methods used in motivational research. 2. Learners will develop an understanding of importance of goals and goal theory to current views of motivation. 3. Learners will develop an understanding of how goal development as a result of transactions among culture, environment, biology and the self-system. 4. Learner will become familiar will current views of expectancy-value and self-efficacy theory. 5. Learns will be introduced to the influences of interest and epistemological beliefs on student motivation. 6. Learner will become familiar will identity development and how that development influences motivation in the classroom. 7. Learners will develop an understanding of attributional processes and their influence on motivation. 8. Learner will become familiar will current views of emotions and their relationship to motivation. 9. Learners will become familiar with intrinsic and extrinsic motivational issues. 10. Learners will develop an understanding of self-direction and self-regulated learning. 11. Learners will recognize teacher, classrooms and school influences on motivation. 12. Learners will recognize socio-cultural contextual influences on classroom motivation
