Measurement of intellectual and creative abilities for identification and evaluation, with a focus on administering and scoring the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking; assessment of abilities in special populations of the gifted.

Course Objectives

1. explain the nature and needs of gifted and creative students of varying abilities, characteristics, and cultures; 2. use assessment and evaluation data in providing appropriate individual educaiton programs for gifted students facing learning difficulties; 3. use and evaluate teaching and counseling models and strategies specifically suited to the unique cognitive and social characteristics of gifted and creative students facing learning difficulties; 4. use and evaluate teaching and counseling models and strategies specifically suited to the unique learning styles of gifted and creative students facing learning difficulties; 5. relate the cognitive and affective dimensions of learning to curriculum content areas and to the learning environment. 6. counsel gifted and creative students and their parents regarding the impact of school, home and community on student learning and plan appropriate instructional programs; 7. organize, manage, and evaluate various programming alternatives, including the appropriate use of technology. 8. use community resources, articulate with other educational agencies and develop mentor relationships; and 9. use current research in education of the gifted.
