Course Objectives
This course introduces students with some background in figure painting to more advanced visual concepts and subjective interpretations of the human figure as subject matter. Assignments are designed to strengthen their knowledge and execution of painting, through direct observation of the human form. Students are required to paint in oil or acrylic media. Advances students must utilize their individual creative strengths to paint more original interpretations of the subject matter.
Topical Outline
Students must develop advanced painting skills with a focus on structural integrity of the picture plane, color palette as it relates to flesh tones and the figure as subject matter. Students are evaluated on the progress of their artwork, through a series of group and individual critiques. Advanced students are expected to communicate observations of the figure with artistic sensibility that expresses their unique visual concepts for a particular series of paintings. Students are expected to have or acquire knowledge about contemporary and master artists, as it relates to the progress and context in which to situate their own body of work.
