Course Description
Theories, research, and practice concerned with recognizing and developing the gifts and talents of children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Contemporary and historical perspectives will be provided on attributes of strength, self-perceptions of ability, family factors, environmental factors, and assessment tools and procedures.

Course Objectives
At the completion of EPSY 7210, students will be able to: 1. understand the nature and needs of gifted and talented students of varying abilities, characteristics, and cultures; 2. use assessment and evaluation data in providing individual education programs for diverse gifted and talented learners; 3. relate the cognitive and affective dimensions of learning to curriculum content areas for students from diverse backgrounds; 4. use and evaluate teaching models and strategies specifically suited to unique cognitive and social characteristics and learning styles of gifted and talented children from diverse backgrounds; 5. use community resources, articulate with educational agencies and develop mentor relationships for gifted and talented children from diverse backgrounds; 6. use current research in multicultural gifted and talented education.
