Through this hands-on course, students will develop an understanding of a variety of cutting and fabrication techniques in metal construction.
Students will expand their knowledge of historical and contemporary sculpture using metal construction.
Students will develop diverse problem-solving skills.
Students will generate ideas and expand conceptual expression applying the techniques of metal construction.
Students will develop language to engage the concepts and techniques of metal construction through intense discussion at studio critiques occurring regularly throughout the semester.
Topical Outline
Metal Construction Tools and Techniques: Students work at the beginning with small metal constructions and progress to larger, more ambitious sculpture.
Understanding Materials: Understanding various metals and their appropriate applications in sculptural construction.
Ideation: Understanding the process of metal fabrication and how and when it is best utilized, develop their creativity in problem solving, and acquire a notion of appropriateness of craft and idea.
