Bioprocess Technology


Course Description

Introduction to concepts in Biotechnology. Students will examine lab safety, quality systems, calculations, doubling time, protein analysis, downstream processing, design of experiments, protein expression, and protein purification. This lab class will include projects for student teams to work on as well as out-of-class assignments.

Students will be given reading and writing assignments to be completed out of class each week.

(BIOL 1107 or BIOL 1107E or BIOL 1107H or BIOL 2107H) and (CHEM 1212L or CHEM 1312L or CHEM 1412L)

Topical Outline

The course consists of two hours of lecture time, two hours of discussion time, and twelve hours of lab time. Honors students, in addition to the main requirements, will also author a standard operating procedure.
