Course Objectives

This graduate seminar is a special topics course that focuses on some specific aspect of Law, Courts, and Judicial Process. The precise material covered changes depending upon the professor and the subject of the special topic. Rather than being a broad overview of Law, Courts, and Judicial Process, this course is designed to direct focused attention on a specialized topic (such as “Women and the Law,” “State Legal Systems,” “Comparative Legal Systems,” “Research Seminal on Trial Courts,” etc.). Thus, this is a capstone course to be taken after other introductory courses in the sub-field. It assumes general knowledge and revolves around intensive reading and research on the specific topic of the individual course, with a particular emphasis on critical thinking and the development of analytical skills related to the issue area. Students may be evaluated based on research papers, examinations, class discussion, presentations, and/or homework.
