Course Objectives
Honors Seminars are focused on topics of special interest to faculty members’ research and teaching. This course is offered on a wide variety of topics which vary per semester. They are designed to introduce students to a specific topic and/or research interest of instructors from a variety of departments and disciplines, and therefore will have a variety of approaches and subjects. Honors seminars encourage intellectual curiosity and interdisciplinary approaches, allowing students to investigate advanced subjects outside of their declared major.
Topical Outline
The Honors program seeks to offer a diverse range of topics taught by faculty from across the University, and as such topics and course structures would vary. Enrollment will be open to all Honors students in good standing. Assignments will be designed by the faculty to facilitate class discussion, promote critical thinking and writing, and to encourage undergraduate research. They will be taught primarily by senior tenure-track faculty on a seminar basis, especially as informal discussion groups. Grading will be on a Pass/Fail basis. Faculty will propose seminar topics to the Honors Program Coordinator of Courses and Advising, who will evaluate proposals in concert with the Honors Program director. The approved list of seminar topics will be posted on the Honors Program website and distributed to all Honors advisors.
