Course Description
This is the first semester in a two-semester applied course sequence. Students collaboratively design and implement a social work focused research study, including navigating topic selection; literature review; gathering, managing, analyzing, and interpreting data. Conceptual discussions and readings emphasize survey research methodology, research topic selection, and best practices.

•Establish collaborative group process •Make effective use of extant body of knowledge to inform topic selection and research design •Develop research objectives and corresponding hypotheses •Develop research questions •Select an appropriate research design to collect data to meet research objectives •Design a data collection strategy •Perform power and sample size analyses •Select and/or design appropriate study instruments/measures •Obtain Institutional Review Board approval for project •Collect data •Prepare data for analyses (enter, clean) •Data analysis
