Course Objectives
A dance lab for rehearsal and performance where students will: - Develop skills as dancers and performers - Develop an understanding of the choreographic process - Enhance an appreciation of the creative process - Develop a knowledge of dance production values - Train in performance practice for pursuing a career in performance and concert dance
Topical Outline
This course is a dance lab and is the first year of performance training in a performance company and/or performance in a faculty-choreographed concert, such as Spring Dance Concert. The dance lab may also include guest artist residencies and other intensives and/or workshops requiring supplemental and varied training, interdisciplinary collaborations, and outreach. • Training and practice in dance technique used in choreography and performance • Training and practice in dance performance skills • Attend rehearsals several times per week to learn new choreography and repertory works • Retain choreographic material, cognitively and kinesthetically • Participate in company/concert management as designated by faculty choreographer or guest artist • Participate in production responsibilities as assigned (costumes, props, etc.) • Perform in mainstage productions • Perform in other productions on and off campus
